DEET
Looking for the most effective protection against mosquitoes and ticks? Care Plus® has been developing effective anti-insect and anti-tick products for more than twenty years. You can prevent unpleasant and dangerous diseases by applying a repellent to exposed skin. DEET is the strongest insect repellent for the skin, suitable for all destinations, both far from and close to home. DEET is the abbreviation for the active ingredient N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (CAS no. 134-62 -3). Care Plus® DEET is effective against house mosquitoes (Culex species) and mosquitoes that can cause malaria (Anopheles species) and yellow fever ( Aedes species). Care Plus® DEET is also effective against ticks (Ixodes species) that can cause Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis. DEET is recommended for destinations that pose a risk of malaria and yellow fever.
Our Care Plus® Anti-Insect DEET products are available in concentrations of 30%, 40% and 50%. The percentage determines how long the product remains effective. Young children put products in their mouth while exploring their surroundings without being aware of the potential danger. Care Plus® Anti-Insect DEET products therefore contain the odourless and bitter substance Bitrex®. Bitrex reduces the likelihood of the repellent being swallowed.
Care Plus® Anti-Insect DEET received a “good” rating from the German Stiftung Warentest in 2004 (50% lotion), in 2010 (50% lotion) and in 2013 (40% spray). Care Plus® Anti-Insect DEET obtained a positive rating from the Dutch Consumers’ Association in 2005 (30% gel) and in 2013 (40% spray).
Tropicare has registered Care Plus® Anti-Insect DEET as a biocide and the product complies with all safety requirements for humans, the environment and effectiveness of use, provided it is used as instructed. Please read the label and instructions before using the product. The availability of Care Plus® Anti-Insect DEET depends on local biocide regulations.
Warning! DEET can damage certain materials, so avoid contact with plastic and lacquered surfaces such as spectacle frames, photo cameras and table tops. We advise vulnerable groups, such as pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding, not to use DEET. Instead use Care Plus® Anti-Insect Natural, which includes lemon-eucalyptus extract (Citriodiol). This strong insect-repellent can be used on children from the age of three months.
